I turned 30 this year!

That’s such a crazy thing to say out loud – I’m 30! Looking back at the last few decades, I feel very blessed to have made it this far. After the experiences I’ve had and remembering people who weren’t able to make it to their 30’s, I’m truly grateful for this life. However, I knew that since I’m approaching this new decade, I have some research to do about ladies in their 30s.

Why? Because the truth is I’m not a young girl anymore. I’m a lady and my body is changing. But to be honest, I don’t want my age to stop me from doing the things that I love. I still have goals and things I want to accomplish. So the question that sprung to my mind was:

Will age hinder us from living our best lives?

Being the nerd that I am, I started researching ways to live healthier as we age. But before I started my research, I was hesitant. I was afraid that I would read tons of articles about how everything is now going downhill! Society has a way of putting “negative” remarks on women who age. It’s all about being young and looking young.

We’re trained to think that as we get older, we have to take it easy. How older women are not relevant anymore. But I’m happy to say ladies…that’s not the case.

In fact, life in our 30’s is better!

It’s a weird concept to grasp but it’s true! In fact, this new decade has been dubbed to be the best years of our lives. Check out some of the facts I found about what women are faced with once they reach their 30’s and how age doesn’t matter when you want to live a life of happiness:

1 – We start lifting more!

According to a study by the Harvard Medical School, when we enter into our 30’s our bodies begin to lose muscle at a rate of 3-5% per decade (which is a natural aging process). In order for women to maintain healthy bodies, we need to start lifting weights! Research shows that resistance and weight training leads to healthier bones and stronger muscles while benefiting other physiological systems. Which means now’s the perfect time to go to the gym and starting lifting like a bad-ass!

2 – We eat better!

As we get older, we start to realize that the foods we consume make a HUGE difference to our bodies. We notice that those nights of drinking and eating junk food every day are behind us now because, well, we’re over it. This is our time to think about ourselves for a change. Eating a well-balanced diet, low in saturated fats and full of fruits and vegetables, actually benefits us in the long run. Research shows that taking control of our food intake now can prevent our bodies from a list of health complaints that people can encounter in their 40’s.

3 – We’re happier!

Our 20’s are filled with anxiety, insecurities, and worry about where we fit in society. But once we reach our 30’s, our minds literally say “Screw this!”. Psychologist Donna Dawson found that people in their 30’s have a huge mental shift. They begin to think with “a strong sense of hope, a ‘can do’ spirit, and a healthy belief in their own talents and abilities.” This is also the time where women have a deep desire to change and rebuild their lives.

If you’re just entering your 30’s or you’ve been cruising in this new decade for some time, you’re going to feel like a new you. You’re going to feel more confident in yourself physically and mentally. So now’s not the time to slow down babe, we’re just getting started! Live for yourself, live for your desires, live for your dreams.
